Clinical Data
Theramine® Clinical Study:
Theramine® is a medical food for the dietary management of pain and inflammation. Pain pathways are complicated, involving both central and peripheral nervous systems. The main neurotransmitters involved are serotonin, GABA, acetylcholine and nitric oxide, which inhibit neuronal firing, and reduce pain. Theramine® is formulated to provide precursors to all these neurotransmitters, thus maximizing their availability.Theramine® also has flavonoids and L-histidine that have the potential to reduce inflammation. The indications for use include acute and chronic pain, fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, and pain due to inflammation.
A Double-Blind Controlled Trial of a Single Dose Naproxen and an Amino Acid Medical Food Theramine® for the Treatment of Low Back Pain

Patients reported a 65% reduction in pain perception at the conclusion of the 28 day study when administered a low dose Naproxen (250 mg. once daily), and Theramine® twice daily (Roland Morris Index). Theramine® as a stand alone therapy, provided a 44% reduction in pain perception. This study indicates that a physician can significantly reduce (or eliminate) the dose of an NSAID or pain reliever and replace it with twice a day Theramine® with no loss of efficacy.
Clinical Evidence Indicates
- The co-administration of Theramine® and low dose naproxen offered a reduction in pain perception 20 times greater than naproxen alone
- Theramine®, alone, was determined to be 10 times as effective as naproxen
- Theramine® offers physicians a safe and effective therapeutic option for pain management.
